‘Eleven minutes’ is the masterpiece of Brazilian bestselling author Paulo Coelho. This novel is based on a fictional account of a woman named Maria who lives in Rio, but moves to Geneva. She is poor and has to do menial jobs to survive in Geneva. Fate led her to be a prostitute. She has accepted her life in this way and keeps on going with it displaying great strength. It is during one of her walks down a street that she feels a sexual awakening inside her. The quest for physical pleasure leads her into some interesting situations, where she tries to find her own body and desires. While she is living a life of a prostitute, trying to understand herself sexually, she comes across a man. She crosses path with a young painter. She is instantly smitten by his charm and he is captivated by Maria too. There is a chance that she might fall in love. At this strange time, love has found her door, will she let it in? Or will it be another sexual adventure for her? This honest tale of a woman's journey to understand her physically and emotionally is bound to keep you hooked till the last page. The descriptions are vivid and yet leave a lot to the imagination. You cannot categorize this as an erotica, rather it will stir your soul and will force you to think and look within. Maria is not alone in this experience and many of us share it at some point or the other. Paulo Coelho deals with the complex and taboo issues of sexual awakening, love and a combination of both. How well can one keep the physical desire and platonic love boxed together in one relationship forms the crux of this book. It was originally written in Portuguese, but was later translated in many languages across the globe.

In The Archer we meet Tetsuya, a man once famous for his prodigious gift with a bow and arrow but who has since retired from public life, and the boy who comes searching for him. The boy has many questions, and in answering them Tetsuya illustrates the way of the bow and the tenets of a meaningful life. Paulo Coelho's story suggests that living without a connection between action and soul cannot fulfil, that a life constricted by a fear of rejection or failure is not a life worth living. Instead, one must take risks, build courage and embrace the unexpected journey fate has to offer.
With the wisdom, generosity, simplicity and grace that have made him an international bestseller, Paulo Coelho provides the framework for a rewarding life: hard work, passion, purpose, thoughtfulness, the willingness to fail and the urge to make a difference.

In 'The Winner Stands Alone', Paulo Coelho expresses his utter contempt for the natural working order of the world. The story is based on one day at the Cannes Film Festival. He explores the completely shallow lifestyles of the 'superclass'; the class of rich, dwindling, botox-fed rich people who are carried away by fame and luxury and who own private jets and live extravagant lives. On the contrary, he also expresses his contempt for 'the other' class which includes people earning average wages or less. It includes people who follow a certain monotone and do things a certain way all their lives to get certain results. Amidst the chaotic events at the world's largest film festival, Coelho lays bare the fallacies of the human soul and shows how downright materialistic our generation has become.
What The Story Tells
The story revolves around Igor, a psychotic Russian executive with a palatial mansion and his own private jet, who comes to Cannes in search of his wife Ewa. Ewa has run away with Hamid, an Arabian designer who is also filthy rich. Igor tries to catch the attention of Ewa by informing her on her cell phone that he will simply go on killing innocent people unless she decides to meet him. And kill, he does. He goes on killing unwitting shop vendors using the Russian art of Sambo, manages to kill a director at the film festival by stabbing her, murders an important film distributer using a curare-soaked needle and so on. Through these murders, he interacts with each of his victims and thus Coelho takes us into the world of glamour and fashion where people soaked in vanity walk and talk about like pre-processed dolls. The novel leaves us thinking and questioning the world we are actually living in.
