A forbidden, secret affair proves that all’s fair in love and science – from Sunday Times and New York Times bestselling author Ali Hazelwood.

Rue Siebert might not have it all, but she has enough: a few friends she can always count on; the financial stability she yearned for as a kid; and a successful career as a biotech engineer at Kline, one of the most promising start-ups in the field of food science. Her world is stable, pleasant, and hard-fought. Until a hostile takeover and its offensively attractive front man threatens to bring it all crumbling down.

Eli Killgore and his business partners want Kline, period. Eli has his own reasons for pushing this deal through – and he’s a man who gets what he wants. With one burning exception: Rue. The woman he can’t stop thinking about. The woman who’s off-limits to him.

Torn between loyalty and an undeniable attraction, Rue and Eli throw caution out the lab and the boardroom windows. Their affair is secret, no-strings-attached, and has a built-in deadline: the day one of their companies will prevail. But the heart is risky business – one that plays for keeps.

In 'The Winner Stands Alone', Paulo Coelho expresses his utter contempt for the natural working order of the world. The story is based on one day at the Cannes Film Festival. He explores the completely shallow lifestyles of the 'superclass'; the class of rich, dwindling, botox-fed rich people who are carried away by fame and luxury and who own private jets and live extravagant lives. On the contrary, he also expresses his contempt for 'the other' class which includes people earning average wages or less. It includes people who follow a certain monotone and do things a certain way all their lives to get certain results. Amidst the chaotic events at the world's largest film festival, Coelho lays bare the fallacies of the human soul and shows how downright materialistic our generation has become.

What The Story Tells

The story revolves around Igor, a psychotic Russian executive with a palatial mansion and his own private jet, who comes to Cannes in search of his wife Ewa. Ewa has run away with Hamid, an Arabian designer who is also filthy rich. Igor tries to catch the attention of Ewa by informing her on her cell phone that he will simply go on killing innocent people unless she decides to meet him. And kill, he does. He goes on killing unwitting shop vendors using the Russian art of Sambo, manages to kill a director at the film festival by stabbing her, murders an important film distributer using a curare-soaked needle and so on. Through these murders, he interacts with each of his victims and thus Coelho takes us into the world of glamour and fashion where people soaked in vanity walk and talk about like pre-processed dolls. The novel leaves us thinking and questioning the world we are actually living in.

A land in tumult, poverty and chaos. Most people suffer quietly. A few rebel. Some fight for a better world. Some for themselves. Some don’t give a damn. Raavan. Fathered by one of the most illustrious sages of the time. Blessed by the Gods with talents beyond all. Cursed by fate to be tested to the extremes.

A formidable teenage pirate, he is filled with equal parts courage, cruelty and fearsome resolve. A resolve to be a giant among men, to conquer, plunder, and seize the greatness that he thinks is his right.

A man of contrasts, of brutal violence and scholarly knowledge. A man who will love without reward and kill without remorse.

This exhilarating third book of the Ram Chandra series sheds light on Raavan, the king of Lanka. And the light shines on darkness of the darkest kind. Is he the greatest villain in history or just a man in a dark place, all the time?

Read the epic tale of one of the most complex, violent, passionate and accomplished men of all time.

Gently Falls: The Bakula is a realistic-fictional read from Sudha Murthy, a profound writer and the Chairperson of Infosys Foundation. In this book, Sudha has boldly presented the agony of work ethics and modern lifestyle. The story is about a young couple Shrikant and Shrimati, and the changes they come across when Shrikant walks up the corporate ladder to the peak of success, while his married life slowly loses the charm and identity. With a magnificently straightway of writing, this book brings a simple but heart-touching story of a couple and the events that shake their life.

Shrikant has always been attracted towards Shrimati, his school companion, and after Shrimati also realizes having fallen in love with Shrikant, both get married. After Shrikant joined an IT company, he dedicates his entire focus to be successful in his career. Shrimati dilutes her own aspirations and stays back at home supporting Shrikant. Shrikant has turned into a successful corporate person while Shrimati has been with him in his journey. The life of both was fine until one-day Shrimati realizes while speaking to an old professor about what she had missed in her life. In the modern work style, she had lost her own identity, while just remaining the wife of a successful man.

This story of Shrimati’s confession to her inner emptiness and the extraordinary presentation of the dark side of corporate lifestyle is the main theme of the book. The readers would find the book to be a philosophical and beautiful depiction of a common topic and would be able to relate to many lives around. Penguin India published Gently Falls: The Bakula in 2008 in paperback.

Whereabouts: A Novel – Jhumpa Lahiri (Paperback)

--

Exuberance and dread, attachment and estrangement: in this novel, Jhumpa Lahiri stretches her themes to the limit. The woman at the center wavers between stasis and movement, between the need to belong and the refusal to form lasting ties. The city she calls home, an engaging backdrop to her days, acts as a confidant: the sidewalks around her house, parks, bridges, piazzas, streets, stores, coffee bars. We follow her to the pool she frequents and to the train station that sometimes leads her to her mother, mired in a desperate solitude after her father's untimely death. In addition to colleagues at work, where she never quite feels at ease, she has girl friends, guy friends, and "him," a shadow who both consoles and unsettles her. But in the arc of a year, as one season gives way to the next, transformation awaits. One day at the sea, both overwhelmed and replenished by the sun's vital heat, her perspective will change. This is the first novel she has written in Italian and translated into English. It brims with the impulse to cross barriers. By grafting herself onto a new literary language, Lahiri has pushed herself to a new level of artistic achievement.
